Background and Experience
I most recently worked with a private institution whose main purpose is to provide CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) to residents of nursing home facilities, and although many of the residents are of the geriatric population we also serve younger individuals who have experienced recent losses such as their mobility or physical independence. Much of my personal experience (death of spouse in 2005 and recent death of father) has paved a path to working in the areas of grief and bereavement. I have a strong history in the field of mental health as I have worked in psychiatric institutions such as Lubbock Regional MHMR-Sunrise Canyon, Acadia Behavioral Health and as an Intern at Charter Plains Behavioral System. My passions is mental health counseling which I feel is best practiced with compassion, education, understanding and empowerment of the individual. I have worked in the areas of for-profit, non-profit and private. I have experience working with children and adolescents in the areas of teen pregnancy prevention, STD education and drug and alcohol prevention. I have worked in the areas of veteran services and focused my masters thesis on developing a case management system for returning war veterans and their families as the thesis is focused on the needs of this specific population and how community support is provided to them. I have written grants to state and local organizations in support of this. I have managed a budget in the amount of $300,000 funded by TRIAD( Texas Resources for Iraq and Afghanistan Deployment).
